Ibrahim Amin Calls for More Investment in Freelancer Skills as Pakistan Posts Record Monthly Earnings

The Pakistani freelancer community has recorded the highest monthly earnings of $197 million in September 2026. Speaking about the figures, Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) Chairman Ibrahim Amin said that Pakistan’s future foreign exchange earnings could be further increased in the coming years in the global digital economy through more investment in training skills and supporting freelancers.

In September, monthly earnings were 49 percent higher than in the same month last year and 11 percent up from August. Freelancers made approximately $550 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, representing a 46 percent increase from the same period in 2022-23. The figures were provided by Ministerial Adviser Khurram Schehzad, who said the sector was turning young digital talent into export revenue without adding to the country’s debt.

Why Freelancing is Attracting More Youth

Amin said the steady growth shows that more Pakistani digital workers are joining the global freelancing market. Many IT graduates and professionals are choosing freelancing because jobs are limited, and it lets them earn foreign exchange while contributing to the national economy.

Income from international clients is also helping freelancers support themselves and their families, and it is creating alternative work for a growing workforce.

Training and Support Come Next

Ibrahim Amin main message was about what happens from here onwards. He said backing freelancers with training, skills development and practical support could strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global digital economy, and that the result would show up in higher foreign exchange earnings over the coming years.

What Ibrahim Amin Said When July Earnings Surged

In July, Freelance export earnings reached $175.439 million, up from $120.556 million in July 2025, a rise of about 45.5 percent, according to State Bank of Pakistan data.

At that time, Amin said freelancers had played a significant role in supporting Pakistan’s economy and that their contribution deserved recognition at the national level.

“The contribution of freelancers to Pakistan’s economy has grown significantly over the years. Their dedication, skills and resilience have enabled them to generate substantial foreign exchange for the country despite multiple issues and challenges,” he said.

The amount of $1.76 billion earned by freelancers in FY2025-26 reflects their talent, dedication and emerging presence in the country’s digital economy market, he added.

It is estimated that almost 3 million professionals in Pakistan are freelancers, both part-time and full-time, which makes Pakistan the fourth-largest freelancer population in the world.

Even with such impressive stats, Amin said the sector would need to grow by over 50 percent within the next few months for it to achieve significant hikes in annual earnings.
